there's a lot to do along the seward highway. fishing is a big one. but what's more is shootin' cereal boxes and spotting bears, bald eagles and moose. now that's the stuff wild dreams and alaskan highways are made of.
yep. thats a bear.

they sure don't call it the halibut fishing capital of the world for nothin'. those north american waters are full of fish - so full, you can basically see fish jumping out of the water.
homer is a misty town, filled with locals and tourist fisherman/women galore. almost every second store is some sort of seafood shop, and even the lady working the supermarket can tell you the tricks of the trade (that is, how to actually catch fish, seeing none of us had really done so before). we caught a lot. some freaky looking - like the one whose eyes shift from the sides of their body to the top (as we were told by a local), and some regular looking. whichever way they looked, they were each tasty as hell. there really is nothing like cooking your own caught fish over the campfire. until your up to the fourth fish, then your starting to push it.
the word ‘fun‘ seems fitting to describe being surrounded by hundreds of deer, watching a huge bonfire ceremony, and stomping around universal studios. that is of course when the three biggest rides are actually operating, there isn't cues for days and it isn't absolutely freezing. not that i'm complaining. I'm not (i am). even with these elements in play, osaka and nara can really turn it on. especially when they've got groups of spidermen on the loose.
mt. koya (or koyasan) and kyoto are places very close to my heart and high on my list of places to visit again and again. i have shared some pretty magical times there - with special friends in kyoto jazz bars, riding along river canals and up cable cars, but koyasan is also where i got engaged (so kawaii).
I wouldn't say i'm a foreigner to snow. we've had some nice minimal encounters here and there. but the winter wonderland found in the prefecture of nagano, japan are second to none. monkeys that bathe in hot springs, snow ball fights outside self-contained winter cottages, frosty windows while reading by fireplaces, and stuffing my face with tasty ramen really is a sweet type of paradise.
summer in cairns is bloody beautiful but bloody hot. i wish i could say my days at the moment were more like this...
but in reality they look like me in my air-conditioned room, scanning negatives, trying to survive the heat.

today i took pause to appreciate the place i've found myself in, far north queensland.
with its deep greens, cascading waters, and natural ambience. i think i’ll like it here.
