Colour Me In was a school-based community art project at Wollongong West Public School which ran in 2022. The project was inspired by the work ‘Healing Garden’ by Hiromi Tango at Wollongong Art Gallery, and sought to transform the school’s neglected garden into a rainbow wonderland.
Students participated in a number of creative workshops over several weeks, utilising second-hand items and recycled materials to develop bright colourful objects - including flowers, wind chimes, and planter boxes.
The project was supported by Wollongong Botanic Gardens and Bunnings, and engaged approximately 25 students aged 7-12 years old, 12 parents, and 3 schools staff. The resulting artworks brought much needed life back into the school garden, with teacher’s exclaiming…
‘this is the most we’ve ever seen the children in here’!
